little moments

life is made up of thousands of little moments.

last weekend, i went on a road trip with two of my crazy cousins and three of our close friends. we were gone thursday night to early monday morning driving to and from and staying in san diego, one of my favorite places ever. this trip was supposed to be perfect, and it was, until i got really sick halfway through. i spent half the trip throwing up and too weak to really be enjoying myself.
on the way home, i took my turn driving after our stop in vegas for dinner. it was getting dark outside and everyone in the car, except my cousin ammon in the front seat, was falling asleep. ammon and i sang along to his indie music, but otherwise didn't talk much. i realized then that although i had honestly been miserable most the trip, that i was so happy i decided to go, simply because of the people who were in the car with me.

early monday morning, at about 4:30 in the morning i was at my mom's on the couch falling asleep, when my little brother kason walked down the hall, he was up getting a drink. he saw me and told me it was good to know i got back safe and that i was feeling better, and that he was glad i was there. that might not sound like much, but coming from one of my brothers that's like strait up saying, "i like having you around, i value your life, and i love you."

i woke up to my other little brother, kody, throwing candy at my face. nothing could say "welcome home" better.

yesterday, my roommate becca and i somehow ended up sitting down on the bathroom floor and talking for about an hour about life. we talked about important things that have happened the past year, things we miss, how things are now, plans we have, and what we hope for in the future. becca and i haven't had a heart to heart like this for literally months, and it was very much needed.

for about a week now, my friend kc and i have been playing words with friends on our phones. i love getting a little message in the middle of my day saying it's my turn, and suddenly real life is put on hold and im just playing scrabble with my buddy.

little moments of reading this website throughout the day:

Dear animal shelter commercials,
Why are you taking a video of a puppy shivering in the rain?
Sincerely, why don't YOU do something?!

Dear Noah,
We could have sworn you said the ark wasn't leaving til 5.
Sincerely, Unicorns.

Dear 2011,
We thought you would having flying cars and robots by now, but congrats on the backwards robes and rubber bands shaped like animals...
Sincerely, 1950.

Dear world,
We would get off the couch if we had legs.
Sincerely, potatoes.

little moments like these always come at just the right times. they lift me a little higher, make me a little happier, and give me the little push i need to keep moving forward.
