somewhere over the rainbow.

over three years ago my grandma, gayla kendall passed away. it was a very hard time but i also felt so blessed to have been able to have this amazing woman in my life and as a grandmother. she is a loving, considerate, thoughtful, friendly, happy woman. she would always make friends everywhere she went. she was always so thoughtful and doing little things for others. every birthday she sent me a card with a poem written inside and called and left a singing happy birthday message. she was always laughing and joking and being happy, even through the very hardest of times. she was (and is) someone who has always brightened other people's lives simply by being who she is. i feel like i owe a lot of who i am to her and like i get a lot of my good characteristics from her. i also want to become even more like her in a lot of ways.

her favorite song is "somewhere over the rainbow". she requested that her grandchildren sing this song at her funeral. my cousin this week showed me this version combined with "i'm yours" and i love it.

tonight, there were a lot of people who i missed ridiculously. my grandma happened to be one of them. it's funny though how there are moments she seems so far away, but also moments when she seems as close to me as ever. even though those moments she seems close are surreal to me, i am so grateful for them. she truly enriched my life while she was here in mortality, and she has continued to enrich my life since she's passed on.
