i've got a dream

last week at both of my brothers' choir concerts (junior high and high school) the themes were centered around dreams. after reading al's blog about dreams and hours of listening to music about dreams at the choir concerts i got thinking and felt a little inspired. growing up people always ask you, "what is your biggest dream?" or "if you could do anything with your life what would it be?" and i always felt so lame because i didn't know! i didn't ever really have a dream! i mean yeah, i wanted to go to college, get married in the temple, and have a family. not that those aren't worthwhile dreams and goals, and not that i won't love having a family and i don't love college, but to me they are kind of just normal and necessary parts of life. but my first year in college i learned a lot about myself and what i want to do. i've made a bucket list with some incredible things i want to do. and honestly, they don't seem completely unattainable to me. sure, i probably won't be able to do every single thing on that list, but why not give it my best swing and see how many things i can cross off? since high school, i've kept a small magnet board in my room that holds visual representatives of things i want to accomplish in my life. it used to hold a picture of the bountiful temple (representing my desire to get married in the temple), a fake $100 bill (representing my desire to work hard and earn money), and a "Y" sticker (representing my former desire to go to byu). this past year it has just held the picture of the temple and fake $100 bill, but this weekend i added to it.

right now let's talk about one of the dreams on my vision board. i want to go to peru. i decided this a few months ago. i would go next summer and i would probably work in an orphanage or teach english. i'm not sure if i'll go for a couple weeks or for a couple months, it depends on how much money i can save up by then. i've heard it is amazing there and i've always wanted to go out of the country to do something helpful and worthwhile. so...i have a year to plan it and of course i'll be letting you know how the plans go.

so my inspiring little message of the day is to decide what your dreams are, what are the things you really want to do? what would make you happy? and then find out what you need to do to make it happen! and finaalllllyyyy...take the steps to make it happen! while you do this though, don't forget to live in the moment and enjoy the little things that make life so great. as dumbledore said:
it does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. remember that.
so go get 'em! and while you're at it, enjoy your life and live it to the fullest. because that there is what dreams are made of. hey hey hey now.
(yeah that last little part is from the lizzie mcguire movie)
